What type of professional digital camera should I get?

Emily asked:

I am sixteen, have taken a few photography classes, and want to go into photography/teaching photography. I have a digital camera but just a basic point and shoot type one. I want to get a professional one but don’t know where to start looking. I’m want to be able to buy this on my own without help from my parents. If you know any where I can control the shutter speed/ hold it open as long as I’d like, please tell me. Thanks!

Emily, you can control all dSLR cameras’ shutter speed and the aperture.

What do you mean, teaching photography? You’re still learning–don’t expect to teach anyone until you have years of experience. A brand new pilot does not teach another person how to fly-yet.

Any dSLR will do. What you’re referring to would be one that costs like $3,000 at least without a lens and that is what you don’t need at this time.
